Ugandan music producer and
singer Yaled Kaluya
was at the centre of an unexpected confrontation during his Kukyala ceremony with his fiancée,
Grace, after an unidentified woman reportedly disrupted the
traditional function claiming that Yaled had previously promised to marry her.
The incident, which reportedly turned physical, interrupted what was expected to be a celebratory occasion as the woman confronted Yaled and challenged his relationship with Grace.
During the altercation, Yaled
was reportedly pushed
and grabbed, prompting several suited men at the ceremony to
intervene and separate those involved. The circumstances surrounding the
woman’s claims, including the nature of her alleged relationship with Yaled,
remain unclear.
Yaled Kaluya is known in
Uganda’s music industry as both a music
producer and singer, having worked on popular songs including David Lutalo’s “Pretty” and “Kwasa.”
He has also gained recognition as an artist in his own right, particularly
through his song “Letter.”
The confrontation attracted
attention because it happened during a Kukyala,
an important traditional ceremony in Buganda culture. Kukyala is a formal
introduction in which a groom is presented to the bride’s family as part of the
process leading toward marriage.
Instead of proceeding quietly
as a private family occasion, the reported confrontation turned the ceremony
into an unexpected public spectacle, with guests witnessing the dispute and
intervention by those present.
The identity of the woman and
the truth behind her claim that Yaled had promised to marry her have not been
independently established. It is also unclear whether the parties involved
intend to address the allegations publicly.
