Mukono District celebrated Youth Day
at St. Andrews Ndwaddemutwe Seed Secondary School in Kimenyedde Sub-county,
Mukono North Constituency, with leaders calling for greater investment in
education, skills development and the empowerment of the girl child.
The celebration which took palce on
Friday 9th/Oct/2026 brought together youth from across Mukono,
students, RDC Hajjat Fatumah Ndisaba Nabitaka, the District Community
Development Department led by Hajjat Minisa Namukose Kirya, district
councillors, District Chairperson Hon. Francis Lukooya Mukoome, and
other distinguished guests under the theme “Impacting the Girl Child.”
Addressing the candidates, RDC
Ndisaba urged them to remain focused on education, avoid distractions and
choose friends who support their academic goals. She encouraged students not to
be ashamed of the schools they attend, emphasizing that future opportunities
depend on their abilities and academic performance.
She particularly challenged girls to
prioritize education, saying that a girl’s value goes beyond physical
appearance. “Beauty without brains is nothing,” she emphasized.
Ndisaba also encouraged candidates
to use their holidays productively by taking short courses, acquiring skills or
seeking work experience instead of spending their time idle. She commended the
school administration for developing the institution to a level where it can
accommodate more than 1,000 students.
District Chairperson Hon. Francis
Lukooya Mukoome unveiled a vocational training initiative aimed at
equipping youth with practical skills. He also announced plans for a youth
call centre to help young people access employment opportunities and ICT
skills.
Speaking to the media, Mukono
District Youth Chairperson Ms. Mbabazi Priscilla, who spearheaded the
celebration, said the initiative seeks to keep girls in school through the “Pad
a Girl” initiative and reduce school dropout rates.
She thanked partners including Gen. Katumba Wamala, Hon. Francis Lukooya Mukoome, RDC Hajjat Fatumah Ndisaba, the area MP and other supporters.
The celebration concluded with the
distribution of maize to youth to support agriculture, sanitary pads to students,
books and other scholastic materials, providing practical support to both
young people and learners.
The event emphasized the need to
continue investing in education, skills, agriculture and opportunities for
young people, particularly the girl child.
